10. WORLD’S LARGEST AND HEAVIEST BIRD
Where elephants are the largest and heaviest animal, Ostriches are the heaviest and largest birds. Ostriches weigh about 145 kilogram and are 9 feet tall. This is more than any bird existing on this planet. You might find one bigger than Ostrich on any other planet, but here, Ostriches RULE!
9. RUNNING LIKE THE WIND
Ostriches are known to have thin and long legs but these legs prove fruitful to them. Ostriches are one of the fastest runners in the category of two legged animals. They run at about 70km/hrs speed and with only one stride, cover up a distance of 5m.

However tall, large or heavy any animal is, we still consider lions or tigers as the ultimate predators who, with their speed, catch up their prey and eat them up. But to our surprise Ostriches are one hell of fighters. These ostriches, with their long legs, can run away from their predators rapidly and can also kill any human or predator using only a forward kick.

Humans are known to have a single stomach and many people take their only stomach for granted and load it with any eat able product they can find. 6. AMAZING WINGS
While wings of other birds help them to fly and cover large distances in flight easily. But ostriches are flightless birds and use their wings for other useful purposes. Their wings can spread to about 2 meters and used for: signaling for mating, protecting offspring, covering their legs to protect from heat, and to change their direction during running, acting as “rudders”.
5. UNITED IN TIMES OF NEED
Unlike many humans, ostriches display unity amongst them during times of need. During winters, they stay pairs and during breeding or rainless season, they from a herd of almost 50 birds with a leading female ostrich: hen. They then travel to other areas.
4. GOOD VISION
Humans have a really sharp vision but with age it deteriorates which causes a person to see unclearly. Unlike humans, humans have an excellent vision because they have large eyes up to 5cm across. Their large eyes benefits them in time of hunting and they can sense their predator from extreme distance.
3. PROTECTION FROM PREDATORS
Whenever any ostrich senses his predator nearby, it lowers’ its neck, pressing it towards the ground. Many people have assumed that they bury their heads into the ground whereas they just lay their necks on the ground, and their remaining body camouflages with the sand and the rest of the area, keeping them safe.

You might have heard someone eating ostrich eggs as breakfast. Well let me tell you something interesting about those eggs. Ostriches have the largest eggs amongst the bird species. Their eggs weight equivalent to two dozen chicken eggs and are nearly 15 cm long.
Humans can’t survive beyond 2 days without water. It’s even more important to our existence than food. But that’s not the same for ostriches as they can survive for many days without water. As discussed earlier they have three stomachs and the moisture in the eaten products like insects, seeds or roots cover their need for water. They also survive on metabolic water but who doesn’t love some cool refreshing water to drink. Even ostriches enjoy drinking and long baths in water when they do find them.
